On Friday, we did Play Make Create. This is where the teacher reads you a story and you discuss the message in the story. Then you create something based on the message and also do a piece of writing. You can use materials or make a digital creation.  This week Mrs Craig Read the book: Stinkosaurus Saves Christmas  It was about how even the most unlikely people can turn out to be a hero. I chose to make a gift with my friend for my mum. Here is my work:

Pet Day Vaseline Saucer

  We have Pet Day at Ohaeawai School every year and one of the activities we do is to create a symmetrical design on a saucer using flower petals. You put Vaseline on the saucer first to make the flowers stick. That’s why they are called Vaseline Saucers. Here is a pic of me with mine:

We have been learning about using apps on our Chromebook to create images that look like mosaics or stained glass windows. We used Google Draw to make some and some people also used Sumopaint. Google Draw. I chose a butterfly because its my favourite bug/insect.

  We have been learning about abstract art. It’s all about creating works of art that don’t actually look like anything. We focused on the American artist Frank Stella, who liked to make pictures using shapes like circles, triangles and rectangles. Here is my work:

Cross Country Week 10 Term 3

   Thanks to Covid we could only have Ohaeawai kids in our cross country this year.  I came 6th to last in my year group.

Maths 3D Clock Week 10 Term 3

  Yesterday, for maths we had to read a step by step procedure for making a 3D clock. It was very tricky. We had to measure in centimeters to make equilateral triangles, measure the angles with a protractor to check they were 60 degrees, make a clock face and arrows and tie it all together with string. I was glad when I finished. The clock hands were the hardest part. Here is a picture of my clock.

It was about a dingo who caught a wombat and tried to make wombat stew. But, it didn’t work out for the sad dingo    I chose to make a piece of writing about how to make wombat stew. also I chose to make something that will catch the wombat without killing it.

You can use materials or make a digital creation.  This week Mrs Craig Read the book: Maui and the sun.   It was about the Maori myth which explains how/why the sun moves across the sky.  I chose to create a art piece of the Sun and also For the last two weeks we have been learning about different kinds of poetry for reading and writing. I decided to publish this poem. It is a Cinquain poem. Here is my work.

    In Week 7 of Term 3, we did Play Make Create. This is where the teacher reads you a story and you discuss the message in the story. Then you create something based on the message and also do a piece of writing. You can use materials or make a digital creation.  This week Mrs Craig Read the book: Tidy     It was about a badger tidying up the forest but then he end up harming the forest.  I chose to show how he could write an apology letter to the forest and the animals and I think he could keep himself busy by drawing a picture or writing a story.

My Activities Week 6 Term 3 2021

  This week we carried on with our ‘insect’ topic for reading I made honey biscuits, writing we did similes about insects, and for maths we practised basic facts and worked on writing a variety of equations which would have a certain number for the answer. We also practised solving problems using place value or known facts knowledge. Here is a selection of my work:

My Science Fair write Up

We are learning how to conduct proper science experiments and then record what we did and what we noticed. We could investigate any area of science we wanted I chose to make home made crystals using salt and sugar, to see which one would form quicker. Here is my work….

Maths Week 5 Term 3 2021 Solving word problems

  Another thing we have been  learning in maths is how to solve word problems involving combinations of things. You had to be able to write addition equations showing as many different   combinations as we could.  Some people found it was useful to do your figuring out using a table. But not the kind of table you eat off-a mathematical table. Here is my work.

My Metamorphosis

  Yet another thing we did for writing this week was to imagine that we had undergone metamorphosis.  We had to pretend we had woken up one morning and discovered we had changed. It would be like going to sleep as a caterpillar and waking up as a butterfly. We had to write about what our new body was like and what we could do. I chose to : Turn into a rabbit.   Because we were using ‘Insects’ as a topic this week for reading and writing we created some works of art based on insects also. We had to make them out of any materials we could find at home. I chose to use: pipe cleaners, coloured paper, and paint. Here is a photo of my creation:

  In Week 7, we looked at an example of a piece of writing that was inspired by a picture. The writing had lots of personification in it. Then we had to look at 6 different pictures and choose one that we thought might inspire some personification ideas.   I chose to use this picture. Here is my writing.

  In Week 7,  we went outside and looked at the old wooden playground  to see if we could think how to write about it using personification. We tried to think about the old playground as if it were an old person. We wondered what the old playground might look like or do that was like an old person. Here is my work:

  We have been learning how to ask questions in Te Reo. The question was :  E aha tenei? This means: What is this? Then we had to be able to answer that question several times using different Te Reo words for things in the classroom. Here is my work.
