 Hi my name is Abby this is my first post for my summer learning journey 2021. I have decided to do art. I chose a ocean to colour in. Here is my colouring picture:

On Friday, we did Play Make Create. This is where the teacher reads you a story and you discuss the message in the story. Then you create something based on the message and also do a piece of writing. You can use materials or make a digital creation.  This week Mrs Craig Read the book: Stinkosaurus Saves Christmas  It was about how even the most unlikely people can turn out to be a hero. I chose to make a gift with my friend for my mum. Here is my work:

You can use materials or make a digital creation.  This week Mrs Craig Read the book: One for you and two for me.  It was about the importance of friendship and sharing thing fairly.  I chose to make something that will remind bear and weasel what friendship is.   We have Pet Day at Ohaeawai School every year and one of the activities we do is to create a symmetrical design on a saucer using flower petals. You put Vaseline on the saucer first to make the flowers stick. That’s why they are called Vaseline Saucers. Here is a pic of me with mine:

We have been learning about using apps on our Chromebook to create images that look like mosaics or stained glass windows. We used Google Draw to make some and some people also used Sumopaint. Google Draw. I chose a butterfly because its my favourite bug/insect.

  We have been learning about abstract art. It’s all about creating works of art that don’t actually look like anything. We focused on the American artist Frank Stella, who liked to make pictures using shapes like circles, triangles and rectangles. Here is my work:

This week for play make create we read the book I am peace. There were two tasks we had to do a writing task and a create task for my create task i did a wonder tree. Here is my work.

   Thanks to Covid we could only have Ohaeawai kids in our cross country this year.  I came 6th to last in my year group.

  Yesterday, for maths we had to read a step by step procedure for making a 3D clock. It was very tricky. We had to measure in centimeters to make equilateral triangles, measure the angles with a protractor to check they were 60 degrees, make a clock face and arrows and tie it all together with string. I was glad when I finished. The clock hands were the hardest part. Here is a picture of my clock.

  We had to do a handwriting sample this week. My handwriting is not that good but it’s way better than the start of the year. Here is my work.

It was about a dingo who caught a wombat and tried to make wombat stew. But, it didn’t work out for the sad dingo    I chose to make a piece of writing about how to make wombat stew. also I chose to make something that will catch the wombat without killing it.

You can use materials or make a digital creation.  This week Mrs Craig Read the book: Maui and the sun.   It was about the Maori myth which explains how/why the sun moves across the sky.  I chose to create a art piece of the Sun and also For the last two weeks we have been learning about different kinds of poetry for reading and writing. I decided to publish this poem. It is a Cinquain poem. Here is my work.

    In Week 7 of Term 3, we did Play Make Create. This is where the teacher reads you a story and you discuss the message in the story. Then you create something based on the message and also do a piece of writing. You can use materials or make a digital creation.  This week Mrs Craig Read the book: Tidy     It was about a badger tidying up the forest but then he end up harming the forest.  I chose to show how he could write an apology letter to the forest and the animals and I think he could keep himself busy by drawing a picture or writing a story.

  This week we carried on with our ‘insect’ topic for reading I made honey biscuits, writing we did similes about insects, and for maths we practised basic facts and worked on writing a variety of equations which would have a certain number for the answer. We also practised solving problems using place value or known facts knowledge. Here is a selection of my work:

We are learning how to conduct proper science experiments and then record what we did and what we noticed. We could investigate any area of science we wanted I chose to make home made crystals using salt and sugar, to see which one would form quicker. Here is my work….

  Another thing we have been  learning in maths is how to solve word problems involving combinations of things. You had to be able to write addition equations showing as many different   combinations as we could.  Some people found it was useful to do your figuring out using a table. But not the kind of table you eat off-a mathematical table. Here is my work.

  Yet another thing we did for writing this week was to imagine that we had undergone metamorphosis.  We had to pretend we had woken up one morning and discovered we had changed. It would be like going to sleep as a caterpillar and waking up as a butterfly. We had to write about what our new body was like and what we could do. I chose to : Turn into a rabbit.   Because we were using ‘Insects’ as a topic this week for reading and writing we created some works of art based on insects also. We had to make them out of any materials we could find at home. I chose to use: pipe cleaners, coloured paper, and paint. Here is a photo of my creation: 

 This week for play make create we had to make a poster about why we wanted the troll dead or not dead. Here is my work.

 Today We wrote a piece of writing about the weather. We got to choose what ever type we wanted. I chose to write about weather. Here is my work. 

  In Week 7, we looked at an example of a piece of writing that was inspired by a picture. The writing had lots of personification in it. Then we had to look at 6 different pictures and choose one that we thought might inspire some personification ideas.   I chose to use this picture. Here is my writing.

  In Week 7,  we went outside and looked at the old wooden playground  to see if we could think how to write about it using personification. We tried to think about the old playground as if it were an old person. We wondered what the old playground might look like or do that was like an old person. Here is my work:

  In Week 8,  Miss Fletcher gave us a science lesson about Matariki. We had to write some notes about it.  Here is my work:

In Week 7, we were learning how to write using personification.  We looked at lots of poems that had personification in them and then we had to write our own. We could choose any topic.  I chose to base mine on trees. Here is my work.

 Last week we made Pixel art. I made a love heart. We are going to make them into magnets. Here is my work. 

 Last week me and my friend made a document about the song about Matariki. i hope you like it. Here is my work.

This week we have been learning about fractions. Here is what I know

  We have been learning how to ask questions in Te Reo. The question was :  E aha tenei? This means: What is this? Then we had to be able to answer that question several times using different Te Reo words for things in the classroom. Here is my work.

This week we went on a hunt in the playground to see if we could find some feathers. We didn’t find any but luckily our teachers had collected some so then we came back to class and wrote about them using our senses of sight and touch to describe them. Here is my work:

We went on a trip to Urapukapuka Island with the conservation people who run Project Island Song . I made a poster about facts about rats. Here is my work.
